MUM 036: Susanne Grant : Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Childbirth
Friday Aug 12, 2016
Friday Aug 12, 2016
SUSANNE GRANT’S BIO
When Susanne was pregnant, her past experiences of child abuse put her on a different road of care from her team of midwives. Thanks to the hypnobirthing course she did and learning how to work with her own medical team she had her own positive birth experience in May 2014. This birth gave her a new mission in life and she is now working with women all around the world to help them to get their own positive birth experience. Having lived with her PTSD, which was diagnosed at the age of 17, she knows firsthand how challenging this can be.
Susanne Grant is a licensed Hypnobirthing Teacher, hypnobirthing mother of little Hannah and founder of Grant Method of Birthing. She has an online Hypnobirthing Course in English, and is about to launch a Dutch version as well. She also teaches group and private classes in person. To help women heal after a challenging birth experience she also developed an online workshop called ‘Healing After Birth’.
Some Quotes:
Quote I live by: “You’ll have people coming to you saying, ‘I don’t know what it is but something about your belief in me has caused me to rise to a new level and I’m so much happier and so much more productive and so much richer for my relationship with you.’ And some of them will eventually say, ‘What is your secret,’ and the simple answer is, ‘I knew who you really are and focused incessantly upon that until you became it.”
“Every time a mother comes to me with her heartbreaking birth story my soul cries out for her and her baby. I will do everything in my power for this world to change the way we treat women during birth.” Susanne Grant
“You need to understand that accepting help during birth isn’t failure, you can’t fail if you put your own child and yourself first by accepting help. How this help is given though, can make a difference in whether a mum experiences the birth positive or negative.” Susanne Grant
“If a mother doesn’t feel respected, treated with the love, care and privacy she longs for, chances are she will not experience her birth positively.” Susanne Grant

MUM 034: Carly Gallagher- Help my Hormones
Friday Jul 29, 2016
Friday Jul 29, 2016
Well it might have taken Carly and I quite a while to coordinate our diaries to make this interview happen (ummmm errrrr we work in the same practice!!! but in our defence we are both mum’s on serious missions which means that syncing our diaries together is not always so easy). After having just recorded this interview this week I really am so excited to get it out straight away. So I am!!
Why?
The information shared is so so important and needs to get out as its not always readily found and many women are left with questions unanswered, despair and also not knowing where to turn. I know this episode will change a lot of that and you will be taking some notes too along the way. And I also expect a lot of downloads and for you to be sharing it with your loved ones.
ENJOY!!

Emma Pickett’s Bio
Emma became a mother after a career in primary education and a Deputy Headship in central London. When she realised how many women were struggling to find breastfeeding support when they needed it, she initially trained with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (www.abm.me.uk), qualifying as a breastfeeding counsellor with them in 2007. Since then she has taken more than 3000 calls on the National Breastfeeding Helpline, as well as volunteering at 3 breastfeeding drop-ins a week in Haringey, North London. She became an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant) in 2011 and recertifies this year with more than 120 hours of additional education in lactation. She is chair of the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers and this includes national strategic work in breastfeeding advocacy as well as the day to day training of new breastfeeding support volunteers and healthcare professionals. In 2015, she published her book, “You’ve got it in you: a positive guide to breastfeeding” which is available in eBook and print version. She blogs at www.emmapickettbreastfeedingsupport.com and in the last year her website has had more than 1.7 million page views. You can find her on Twitter as @makesmilk. MUM 032: Catharine Ross : Break Free with EFT
Friday Jul 15, 2016
Friday Jul 15, 2016
This week we have Catharine Ross sharing insight into Emotional Freedom Technique, how it can be used to let go of fears and anxieties but also be used as a clearing tool for old stress and traumas. I learnt a lot and am grateful to know there are people doing this work.
Enjoy the episode.

Catharine Ross’ Bio
Catharine has been running a successful business in helping clients through the use of EFT and Matrix Re-Imprinting for the past 5 years. She is also mum to a 8 month old daughter who was peacefully brought into the world last October.
EFT stands for “Emotional Freedom Technique” and some people know it as “Tapping”. It works like emotional acupuncture, but without needles! We re balance the body’s energy and nervous system by tapping with our fingertips on certain acupressure points on the face and upper body. EFT has been scientifically validated, used by the NHS in the UK for treating anxiety and depression and is applicable to just about every issue you can think of – from self-esteem issues, grief, trauma, abuse, relationships, through to physical conditions as well including weight and chronic pain.
Catahrine’s specialty is in helping people to overcome anxiety, especially around pregnancy, labour and childbirth. I have also had great success with clearing past birth trauma using Matrix Re-Imprinting which is an advanced form of EFT.
Qualifications: AAMET Certified Clinical EFT Level 1 & 2 & Matrix Re-Imprinting Practitioner.

Sophie’s Quote“Nothing’s a problem unless it’s a problem”
Sophie’s Life changing books:
Dayna Martin: Sexy Birth – The catalyst for my homebirth and natural parenting journey
The Aware Baby – by Aware Parenting Pioneer, Aletha Solter – really changed my whole approach to sleep consulting – leading me to a more holistic, emotional well-being model rather than a behavioural approach (e.g. “sleep training” such as controlled crying) to changing sleep patterns/addressing sleep difficulties. This has really started me on my life path of helping parents create change using the fundamentals of conscious parenting, with a core focus on the essential role of crying in stress relief and healing trauma.

MUM 029 – Annika Frey : Happy Place Birthing

Happy Place Birthing
Annika Suoma Frey Bio
Annika was born and raised in Germany. After finishing school she followed her big dream, starting to study acting, singing and dancing on The Stage School in Hamburg. A severe bout of depression stopped her and after healing and coming back to herself she studied as technical draftswoman. Along the way she found and married her soul partner, Dennis. They moved to Ireland and several years went by, she got sucked into the corporate world, but never felt truly happy trading all those hours for money while the work was so dissatisfying.
So Annika quit her day job to pursue her dream of a lifestyle that suited her better. Over the last 4 years she founded several businesses, following every spark of passion, from body painting and pole dancing over creating dresses and costumes to having her own market stall, selling cake pops and chocolates. Her husband was able to quit his day job and now they run the market stall together, having lots of time with their two children and for new passion projects. While Dennis is writing fiction books in German, Annika has started a blog sharing happy birth stories and the tools that helped creating them, after having a life changing experience giving birth to her second son at home in the water. Her baby’s birth also inspired her to create a birth preparation online program, including her own relaxation technique, the “Happy Place Method”.
